Severe storms rarely hit the large town of Middleton. Anyone who'd lived there for over five years could realize that easily. There had been several close calls, but none actually hit Middleton directly, giving the residents a false sense of security that could be extremely dangerous in an emergency.
It was a hot, humid spring day as Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable walked home from their school, Middleton High. Kim swiped a hand across her damp forehead and sighed, thinking, "It's ferociously hot today. What gives?". She looked over at her friend Ron, whose blond hair was getting damp around his forehead. He was starting to slouch, seemingly under the weight of the humidity around them.
Curiosity got the best of Kim, and she took out the Kimmunicator and turned it on. A 10-year old appeared on screen.
"
Wade!" Kim said. "Can you please tell me why it's so hot? Ron and I are practically melting, and it's not even summer yet!"
"Well, a warm front did pass by yesterday," Wade explained. "That could be the reason. Oh! And storms are starting to develop northwest of Middleton. I thought I'd let you know."
Ron laughed. "Rain storms, Wade? Yeah, I think we could use one or two. Had to leave Rufus at home 'cause I was afraid he'd get sunburned!" At that point Ron's hand slid into his pocket.
"Its probably no big," Kim said. "They might not even come here." As an afterthought she added, "I hope the air conditioner's working. Ron and I are doing homework at my house. Anyway, thanks, Wade. Later."
Wade gave her a thumbs up and the screen went black.
Kim and Ron arrived to a nice, cold house 15 minutes later. Ron turned on the TV in the living room, while Kim set up a table near the couch to do homework upon.
"Hey, The Fearless Ferret is on!" Ron told Kim. "Can we do this for homework instead?"
"Ron, you can't replace homework with TV! Turn it off."
"Yes you can! Come on, lighten up. I do it all the time."
Kim raised her eyebrows and said sarcastically, "And look where it got you. Sit down."
Ron groaned, sat down, and opened his science book to page 100, which had a picture of a skeletan. He studied the picture for awhile before asking, "Are we supposed to learn all this junk?"
Kim nodded. They had a test on that chapter on Friday, so it was important for both Kim and Ron to study. Ron knew about the test (or at least Kim though so), but he didn't want to learn the material.
Suddenly, after 15 minutes of quiet studying, a loud beeping sound starting coming from the TV, causing Kim and Ron to jump. Kim whirled around to look at the TV, but all she saw was a blank screen with the words "Emergency System Warning: Tornado".
"What's the annoying beeping for?" Ron asked loudly. Kim shushed him, because a voice had starting talking.
".....Issues a Tornado Warning for the Tri City area, consisting of Upperton, Lowerton, and Middleton. At 4:30PM Eastern Standard Time a tornado was spotted on ground and by radar in a severe storm 25 miles northwest of Middleton, moving south/southeast at 10 miles per hour. This is a dangerous storm. Seek shelter in a sturdy building or basement. If outside, lay flat in a ditch or depression." The beeping continued, and Kim turned to the local weather station.
A Tornado Warning was flashing in red along the bottom of the screen. Tornado chasers were filming the medium sized tornado while driving. Someone on TV mentioned it was an F2 on the Fujita Scale. Kim and Ron looked at each other.
"So.........."Ron sighed. "I guess study session is over, right?"
