Chapter One: The Meeting at King's Cross
Kim Possible, a red haired teen with green eyes, walked away from Platform 10 in King's Cross station, having just gotten off a train that had carried her away from her latest successful mission, in which she had to stop Duff Killigan from turning half of Britain into a large golf course. She was thinking of her friend Ron, who usually accompanied her on missions but wasn't with her at the moment; his mother had forced him to clean the house instead.
Kim's thoughts of her best friend Ron were broken suddenly by a loud squawking noise and a crash; Kim spun around and found two boys and a girl struggling with a tipping luggage cart. A cage with a small owl fluttering around madly inside and hooting loudly lay on the floor beside them. Kim decided, though hesitantly (because how many people, let alone teenagers, owned owls?) to help them.
Approaching the three of them, Kim asked "Do you need help or something? It looks like you dropped your, um, owl, and..." Kim's voice trailed off when the three teenagers looked at her. They all had looks of fear on their faces.
One of them, a boy with flaming red hair, picked up the cage with the owl and said, "Er..no thanks. We're perfectly fine, really. You can just...go." Kim was slightly surprised by his rather rude dismissal. The girl, who had bushy brown hair, said "Ron!" in an annoyed voice.
"What, Hermione?" Ron asked angrily. "We don't need her help!"
"Well, it was rude," the girl called Hermione told him. Then she turned to Kim and added, "I'm sorry for my friend's rude behavior. I'm Hermione Granger, by the way. Thanks for offering to help, but we've really got everything under control, so-" Just then another cage, this time with a large snowy owl crashed to the floor, and several others looked around. The other boy who hadn't spoken yet was scrabbling to pick the cage up. "Harry, calm her down!"
Kim frowned and said, "I don't want to be nosy or anything, but why do you have owls?"
"Oh, this owl, Hedwig, is my pet," said Harry, pushing his untidy black hair out of his eyes and revealing a scar on his forehead, interestingly shaped like a bolt of lightning. He also had startlingly green eyes, like Kim's. "She hates long train rides; I think all owls do." Harry seemed to look at Kim in a more interested way. "You remind me of....my mother. Why are you here?"
Kim wondered whether she should tell them or not. They were, after all, complete strangers who were, in fact, a bit strange. But she introduced herself properly, and then spent ten minutes describing how she defeated Duff Killigan.
"And you did this by yourself?" Ron asked. "Without ma-" At that point Harry elbowed him hard in the ribs, which stopped Ron from saying whatever he'd meant to say.
Harry really was amazed though, that a muggle (non magic) girl could do so much without magic. She was obviously resourceful, and Harry wondered whether she'd be useful for his own mission, to defeat the dark wizard Voldemort, who had killed his parents and had nearly killed him. As Kim Possible wasn't a witch, Voldemort wouldn't suspect her...Harry had no way of communicating this to Ron and Hermione without Kim hearing, so he said "Would you like to walk outside with us, Kim?"
Kim nodded. She, like Harry, was curious, but for different reasons. Harry, Ron, and Hermione seemed to have a secret, and a large one at that. The foursome walked outside, and Harry led them to a nearly deserted area of the parking lot.
"So...you really defeated that man? All of it was true?" Harry asked, wanting to be sure of Kim's talents.
"Yeah, I did. It was-wait, why are you so interested?"
Harry gave Ron and Hermione a significant look, and comprehension dawned on Hermione's face, though not Ron's. Harry had expected as much; Hermione had been the best in their year at Hogwarts (the school for witchcraft and wizardry they attended), and was very good at figuring things out, whereas Ron wasn't. Hermione whispered her suspicions to Ron, whose eyes widened. "No!" he said.
"No what?" Kim asked, as she experienced the unpleasant feeling of not knowing something again, though this time she was sure it was about her.
"I think it's a good idea," Hermione said to Harry. "He'd never suspect it, really. And with the three of us the non-magic wouldn't be much of an issue..."
Kim's jaw dropped. "Magic?!"
Harry nodded, and Hermione said, "We're wizards; well, Harry and Ron are, I'm a witch, and we really need you to help us with something big. Like a mission." And Hermione, with Harry and Ron's help, began to explain how there were witches and wizards who could do magic, how Voldemort, an extremely dark wizard who had murdered Harry's parents was going to kill Harry and then proceed to kill off more witches and wizards who weren't of pure magic descent, unless Harry killed him first ("We'll explain why later," Hermione said.), how there was an organization called The Order of the Phoenix working to stop him (Kim had no clue what a "phoenix" was but didn't interrupt), how the only wizard Voldemort ever feared, a man called Dumbledore, was dead, and how Kim could help them find Horcruxes (or pieces of Voldemort's soul he'd used to make himself immortal) and stop Voldemort without Voldemort suspecting anything. Hermione made a point in emphasizing the point to Kim that Harry was the one who would ultimatly defeat Voldemort in the end, if all worked well.
Kim had never expected to be asked on such a mission or to be told that there was a whole other world of magical people and creatures in her life, let alone in the parking lot at King's Cross. But Hermione had told the story so well, and with such emotion that Kim, who never refused to help someone who asked for it, said "Yes" in a numb voice.
Kim was even more surprised when Hermione said, "Well, now that you've agreed to help us, grab Harry's arm. We're going to Ron's house. Hold on tight-he's going to Apparate-"
"I'm not of age yet!" Harry said, surprised. Hermione usually always stuck to the rules and Harry, who wasn't 17 (the adult age in the wizarding world), couldn't perform any magic outside of Hogwarts until his 17th birthday.
Meanwhile, Kim wanted to know what Apparating meant. "What's "apparating"? Because I am so not doing it if it hurts-"
"It's when a witch or wizard disappears from one place and reappears in another," said Hermione. "It doesn't hurt, though it might take getting used to. And Harry-the Ministry of Magic will let anyone Apparate or Disapparate in an emergency; they're not really keeping track anymolre as long as you can do it, and you can." Then Hermione half-turned on the spot and vanished with a small pop. Kim gasped.
"She-she-" Kim sputtered wildly. "She was there and then-" Kim stopped, because Ron had just done the same thing. She looked at Harry and asked, in an amazed voice, "Are we-?"
Harry nodded, and gave a half-turn with Kim holding his elbow....
Kim felt as though she were being pushed through a small tube, and she couldn't breathe or move at all. Panicking, she wanted to scream or yell or tell Harry he'd done something wrong, but none was possible. Yet, barely had the thoughts entered her mind when the sensation suddenly stopped and Kim found herself standing next to Harry, a few feet away from Ron and Hermione, looking at a tall, odd looking house that seemed as though it could topple over.
Ron turned to Kim (who was gaping in shock at having just ended up in a different place) and Harry. Ron, smiling slightly, said, "Welcome to my house, The Burrow!"
